I’m proud and excited to announce my candidacy for State Representative of Tennessee’s District 31, which includes Rhea, Bledsoe, Van Buren, and Sequatchie counties. After more than 20 years of service in business, education, the military, and community organizations, I’m ready to bring a steady, experienced, and commonsense voice to Nashville—one that truly reflects the values of our people.
After 33 years with La-Z-Boy, I retired as Vice President and General Manager, where I had the privilege of leading great teams, managing multimillion-dollar budgets, and helping drive economic growth right here in our region. With an MBA and decades of experience solving real-world challenges, I’ve learned that good leadership starts with listening, teamwork, and a commitment to doing what’s right—not what’s easy.
Public service has always been close to my heart. For over two decades, I’ve served six consecutive terms on the Rhea County School Board, working to make sure our children have the opportunities they deserve. I’m also proud to have served 16 years with the 3/278th Armored Cavalry Regiment. That experience taught me discipline, accountability, and the importance of standing up for others—especially our veterans and military families.
At the heart of my campaign is a simple belief: the best ideas come from the people who live here. My understanding of each county’s needs comes from real conversations at local events, school meetings, and kitchen tables—and I plan to keep listening every step of the way.
Rhea County has been home for many years, and I’m grateful for every opportunity to give back. Whether serving on local boards, coaching youth, or working on education initiatives, this community has shaped who I am. As your representative, I’ll continue to fight for strong public schools, expanded healthcare access, and economic development that supports our working families and small businesses.
Bledsoe County’s deep agricultural roots remind us where we came from—and what we must protect. Our family farms and rural traditions are vital to both our culture and economy. I’ll support policies that preserve farmland, strengthen rural infrastructure, and keep farming a sustainable way of life. I’ve also heard clearly that healthcare access and reliable utilities remain top concerns, and I’m committed to finding real solutions that work for Bledsoe families.
Van Buren County’s natural beauty and strong community spirit make it a special place. I’ve listened to residents share their hopes for protecting Fall Creek Falls, improving rural healthcare, and creating new economic opportunities. I’m already connecting with healthcare leaders to explore better access to care and preventive services. I’ll also continue to support efforts in infrastructure, recycling, and rural business development—because Van Buren deserves both preservation and progress.
In Sequatchie County, I’ve heard so many conversations about the future of our kids. With more than 20 years on the school board, I know the importance of supporting teachers, improving literacy, and expanding career pathways so every student can succeed. I also appreciate the county’s proud agricultural heritage and believe in policies that honor tradition while encouraging innovation. From healthcare to job opportunities, Sequatchie’s families deserve a representative who will listen—and deliver.
I’m running because I believe our district deserves a representative who shows up, listens, and gets things done. I’m ready to bring honest, practical leadership to Nashville—and I can’t do it without you.
Let’s build a stronger future together—one rooted in community, experience, and genuine service.
– Harold “Bo” McCawley
Bo is a lifelong resident of Tennessee’s District 31. His wife, Luohong, was a college professor for 23 years. They both earned their master's degrees as adults. And while their love story spans the globe, their shared commitment and service are deeply rooted right here in District 31.
You can often find Bo and Luohong out in the community—attending local events, meeting with small business owners, and cheering at ballgames across the district. And if you spot them, there’s a good chance their most loyal family member is along for the ride—just look for the covered stroller in their entourage!
